After recent events it was found that we didn't have the ability to short circuit or cut out sections of the railway in the event of a derailment, disabled engine or track damage. Also with the use of the Clubhouse for corporate parties, there was also the need for a second station located near the Clubhouse.
Below is a sketch from Feb 08 of the junction that was approved by the membership.

Wednesday Night Working Bee - 11/2/2009
Here is the start of the forth set. As you can see it is currently on the jig table that helps set the outer rails. Matthew is measuring the sleepers of the finished point to cut for the next two sets.
With the setting up of the workshop for track and point building, the straight track jig had to be moved from the front of the shed to the rear side wall.
Wednesday Night Working Bee - 21/1/2009
Second Set of Points (continued) - 10/1/2009
This design replaces the blades with a short section of rail, that converts it to a semi-stub point. This design ensures that there is 100% wheel to rail running and cuts down on manufacturing time as there is no need to machine blades.
These photos show the point first in the curved way and then in the straight way. As you can see all of the moveable frogs are in the direction of travel.
These photos show the completed point, close view of the stub "blades" and the third photo is of the third set of point that work is progressing om.
Second Set of Points - 26/11/2008
Wednesday night working have been taking place to get speed up the process.
Temporary Clubhouse Station - 4/12/2008
Discussion has taken place and it has been agreed that instead of the station on the inside of the loop, we will look at creating an island platform. This will enable running or stopping two trains at the station.
Track now commissioned - 26/11/2008
Moving of the Inner Loop - 19/10/2008
Then it was into moving the track to it's new loction
Installation of point - 19/10/2008

All new track constucted is now using recycled plastic sleepers.
First Set of Points - 28/7/2008
As detailed above, these points are moveable frog points. This means that the frogs (where rail diverages) move to enable the point to have 100% wheel contact.

Junction Project
12 points required.
Moving of the inner loop inwards to allow for cross overs.
Recycling of the entire rail removed.
Two new 5 meter tunnels at the entrance to the original and new cutting. (Future track over the hill)
Additional passing loop in the inner loop.
It has been a while since an update, so here is the progress so far. We are hoping to have the turning track and new station mainline operational by our Annual Interclub Run in May.
Work has taken place on the track bed which has been rolled and leveled. Track has been placed in its future location to ensure correct fit out. With the track changing direction and the side in which the 5" track is located, a section of straight that transitions the 5" track is currently under construcion. The set of points has been constructed and is awaiting to be moved to its install location.
Work has been progressing of the track bed and it has almost completed. One set of points (shed end) have been installed and as you can see track has been placed in the location that it will be installed. As stated before, these photos show how the new mainline will mostly be curved. As the decision has been made to have the station an island platform (between both tracks) it will look interesting. The point for the top end is currently under construction.
Track bed work is yet to start on this section. A number of straights have been installed to get the idea of where the new diamond crossover will be installed (cross with the return of the back loop to inner loop).
Photos of the third set of points installed and station passing road progressing.
The first photo shows how the station will be setup. The track to the right is the main line (through station) and cross over to cutting. The left track will be the station line (currently being used).
The second photo shows a bit futher around
The third photo shows the installed points and track for new mainline. As you can see the mainline will be a majority of curves with about 6ft of straight.
To help create a stable base for all our new track work, a truck and trailer load of Pavement Mix was delivered onsite.
The completed third set of points were moved from the bench infront of the shed to their new location (passing station and cross-over to cutting). Work from the Tuesday group has seen the base prepared and readied for installation.
In past weeks the straight track jig had been moved. Tonight the curved jig was moved from the container into the shed. As you can see here are some photos of the jig being moved.
Photos after the point has been installed. This point is for the station passing loop and cross over to the cutting (after an additional point)
Ready for installation of the second point, a number of members moved the point out to its location
The third completed set was moved for the starting of the forth set. The third set was moved out to the bench out the front of the shed for painting and some additional welding
Here are some photos of one of our Wednesday night working bees. Tonight work continued on the third set of points, with the second set being painted in rust guard.
These photo's are of our second set of points that have been constructed. As you can see these points are of the new design.
Our second set of points in construction. These points are on our new table, this table enables the construction of two points at the same time(one on the old table, one on the new table).
This is our annual temporary station (until our new one is finished) that enables the use of the Clubhouse by corporate parties. Station was removed just before our December 2008 Runday.
Photos of the track after our November Runday. Track still has to be balasted, however we are waiting for the installation of additional points.
Once the set of points had been installed work started on removing all the bolts holding the track together.
With an hour left of the Runday and a small number of passengers the cut over occured. The set of points were installed first as they were required to setup the curve.
Before our October Runday (and moving of track) we had to get the set of points out of the shed to place them ready for the cut over.
Photos and Drivers Eye View of the last train over this section of rail. The is a bit of a momentus event as this track has been down since we first started running trains at Altona.
Photos of the sections of new rail that were required for the project. Photos show the new cutting in the rock wall.
These photos are of the first set of points required for the junction project. This is the first set of points constructed in the club in more then 5 years (No problems with flanges).
Photos of the tack as it was before any work has started. The track will end up 5 metres closer to the clubhouse and will end up traveling through the centre of the rock wall.
